Patna Frontier

           Patna Frontier was established on 30th September, 2002. The first head of  the Frontier was Shri D. K. Basu, IPS (Retd.) as the Inspector General . After transformation of SSB into a border guarding force under MHA with the mandate to guard Indo-Nepal border the South Bengal Division, Kolkata of erstwhile  Special Services Bureau was shifted to Patna and rechristened as Frontier Headquarter. 
          Presently, 631 Kms of Indo-Nepal border in Bihar is being guarded by 12 operational Bns and 07 Areas under supervision of 03 Sector Head quarters at Bettiah, Muzaffarpur and Purnea. Present deployment of SSB Patna Frontier covers 06 districts of North Bihar i.e. West Champaran, East Champaran, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Supaul and Araria  located opposite 12 districts of Nepal i.e. Navalparasi, Chitwan, Parsa, Bara, Rauthat, Mahotari, Dhanusha, Saptari, Sunsari, Morang and Jhapaha. Besides, 05 Bns of Patna Frontier are deployed in LWE areas with head quarters at  Muzaffarpur, Gaya, Jamui in Bihar and Ranchi & Dumka in Jharkhand under the supervision of DIG (Special OPS), Sector Headquarters at Gaya.
          General AOR of Patna Frontier is having dense Forest cover in Valmiki Tiger Reserve in West Champaran and the rest of the area is plain with many riverine stretches. Deployment in South Bihar bordering Jharkhand has dense forest cover having sizeable presence of LWE groups. Bihar-Nepal border is very sensitive with regard to smuggling of contraband  items, Narcotics, FICN racketeering, Arms and Ammunitions. The AOR is also prone to human trafficking specially of women and children from India and Nepal.
